About the Course

General practitioners and family physicians who are the first point of medical contact are very important for the health of a community. However commercialization, corporatization, specialist reductionist approach to health and increasing patient awareness and medico-legal litigations have made general practice difficult. Investigations are increasingly being ordered in defense against law suits apart from diagnostic purposes. Radiology and imaging given its intrinsic quality of being non-invasive and informative they are one of the most prescribed investigations.
In such a scenario, General Practitioners should be abreast with the relevant knowledge in Radiology. Busy practitioners find it difficult to take time away from their busy schedules for this and here is where continuous online medical education comes in handy and makes such doctors’ lives easy.
Recognizing this potential, IMACGP has designed the six months certificate course in Primary Care Radiology, which imparts enough knowledge and skills for a busy practitioner.
The course is for those who wish to develop knowledge and skills in Radiology and Imaging and for all those who wish to better manage radiology investigations in their daily practice. The course is run over six months, using a blended approach, comprising of self-paced online education, complimented case based discussion and graded assessments.

Target Audience

General Practitioners, MBBS Doctors.

Course Delivery Format

It consists of a series of comprehensive lectures by a professor in the subject, appropriately annotated with slides, animations and wherever necessary, interactive content. The delivery offers tremendous flexibility. You may pause a teacher while you refer to your textbooks (not includes) and to take notes. You may also rewind a segment to listen to the teacher again or you may skip a slide or two if you already know that bit. You may bookmark a segment that you wish to return to later, maybe to refresh just before your exams.  While the lessons in this course may be arranged in a particular order based on our curriculum, you have the flexibility to take them in order of your preference based on your personalized learning needs.

If I enroll for Certificate course in Primary Care Radiology, from where and how do I get X-Rays for interpretation without any Clinical Rotations?

Clinical rotations are not mandatory in Diagnostic Radiology, unlike Interventional radiology. The necessary skills for diagnostics would be incorporated with the aid of case histories and digital films, which would be adequate for investigating. X-rays shall be procured from experienced Radiologists and will be posted on the online  platform, for which hospital rotation is not required.

After completion of CPCR can I have my own set-up and start ultrasonography?

On completion of CPCR, you would have been enabled to correctly order for optimally appropriate investigations in your practice, and to better interpret X-rays and radiological modalities.
For finer skills in Ultrasonography, IMACGP Online has another specialized course, launching in January 2015.

After completion of CPCR can I have my own set-up and do the interpretations without the need of radiologist?

While you certainly can have a set-up with your own x-ray machine, and you would be able to competently interpret radiographs for your own patients, you may not report on the films ordered by other doctors. This course does not replace/substitute the master’s training of the radiologist.

Is the IMACGP Online offering any course on 2D-Echo?

As of now, this course is not available.

Does this certificate course cover the CT and MRI diagnosis skills also?

CPCR equips you with the requisite skills to interpret X-rays. Interpreting CT Scans, Mammograms and MRI requires separate skills which are not a part of the curriculum designed for this course. Separate courses might be launched in the near future, which cater to this demand in particular.

Why should I join Certificate in Primary Care Radiology / how does CPCR help me?

There is a continual need for GP to upgrade their knowledge and skills so as to keep abreast with relevant knowledge and updates in Radiology. The course is for six months that will help the GPs to understand and interpret the X-rays that would in turn help them in better management of their patients. This is for those who aspire to widen their knowledge and skills in Radiology and Imaging and those who wish to manage their patients better through radiology investigations.

Are there any contact sessions?

Since the Course in Radiology deals with study of X-Rays, there is no requirement for a student to attend hospitals for the same. The course provides abundant number of X-Rays in the course content, so that the student gets ample knowledge on interpreting the X-rays; the student will be guided on interpreting the X-Rays.
