About the Course
“Materia medica” are Latin words that mean “materials of medicine,” that is, the various medicines used in homeopathy from the plant, mineral, animal, or chemical kingdoms. Homoeopathy has more than four thousand proved medicines and each medicine having hundreds of symptoms. Homoeopathic drugs are proved on a number of healthy and qualified volunteers (provers) of different age groups from both the sexes. The symptoms produced after consuming the drug are observed, verified, recorded and compiled. A materia medica lists homeopathic drugs in alphabetical order and provides a summary of “provings,” or research, for each drug. A typical listing will describe the general characteristics of the drug, followed by a detailed list of symptoms associated with that drug. These compilations of different medicines form the Materia Medica. A homeopathic materia medica is a reference guide to homeopathic medicines, which describes individual drugs and the symptoms that they may address.
Hahnemann assembled the first homeopathic materia Medica, based on research conducted in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Since then, numerous homeopathic practitioners have written Materia Medica. There are hundreds of homeopathic Materia Medica, and there are different styles in which they are written and organized.
In this course on Materia Medica, student can learn various homeopathy materia medicas, various homeopathy drugs, and their provings.

Course Delivery Format
This course is delivered entirely online. It consists of a series of comprehensive lectures by a professor in the subject, appropriately annotated with slides, animations and wherever necessary, interactive content. The delivery offers tremendous flexibility. You may pause a teacher while you refer to your textbooks (not includes) and to take notes. You may also rewind a segment to listen to the teacher again or you may skip a slide or two if you already know that bit. You may bookmark a segment that you wish to return to later, maybe to refresh just before your exams. While the lessons in this course may be arranged in a particular order based on our curriculum, you have the flexibility to take them in order of your preference based on your personalized learning needs.
